Looking for something interesting to do (and eat) this weekend? We have a couple of options to offer you today. Every year, the New York State Maple Producers Association holds a Maple Weekend to celebrate the start of the maple syrup and maple sugar harvest. This year's festivities actually take place over two weekends, starting on March 20-21, and continuing on March 27-28, 2010. What should you expect? Unlike the other option discussed below, the Maple Weekend doesn't take place at a single location with an admission charge. Instead, you can visit one or more maple producers located on country roads 20 miles outside of Buffalo - typically small family farms offering in-person looks at maple tree taps and syrup production, plus mini-stores set up to sell all sorts of different maple products. The farms typically open around 10am and close before dinner time. If you're looking for a hot meal, wait until the morning of Sunday, March 21, when maple pancake breakfasts are being held at four fire halls and American Legion Posts across Erie and Niagara Counties - some all-you-can-eat.
